Earlier this year the Most Reverend Francis Leo, Archbishop of Toronto traveled to St. Francis of Asissi Parish in Toronto to celebrate Mass and meet the faithful parishioners.

“It is with great joy that we welcome you to our parish, and in particular it is special to welcome you to this church that shares your namesake, welcome to St. Francis of Asissi,” said Fr. Massimo Buttigieg, pastor of the parish.

“It is a delight to be with you today, on the Lord’s Day, and thank you for the warm welcome. It is great to see all of you, especially all of the families and the young people who are preparing for their Confirmation,” Archbishop Leo said in addressing the congregation at the beginning of Mass.

In his homily, His Grace emphasized how important the ten commandments for us all, especially the first three commandments, “Adore and worship only God – we respect and honour and pray to the saints, the Blessed Mother, but we adore and worship only one. God is number one.”

“And Sunday is the Easter of every week. The day of a new creation. It is a day for us to rest, and to worship God.”

At the end of the Mass, Fr. Massimo expressed his gratitude and appreciation saying, “I would like to thank His Grace, Archbishop Leo for accepting our invitation to visit us as it is great to hear directly from him, our pastor and for the parish community to feel the pulse of the heart of our shepherd."

A time of socializing and fellowship followed Mass where the archbishop was able to meet many parishioners.
